Real self defense requires real violence. I don't mean defending against the "whadjou say bout my mother?" loudmouth at the bar. Or the "You suck!" blowhard at the game. I mean the guy who wants to kill you and take your money. Or take your daughter.

How To Catch Your Cheating Spouse

Do you think your spouse is cheating? What are allowed to do, or look into, to decide this for yourself? Do you ever ask yourself "can I get into her Facebook page"? "How can I find someone's cell phone number?"

1. Can I look at her FaceBook page? Yes, if it is public. You can - and probably should - print the pages you see that are suspicious.
2. Can I hack her private FaceBook page? Depends on what you mean by hack. Generally, you are permitted to guess her password. Some states may prohibit password cracking software. Some states may prohibit software that acts as keystroke capture.
3. How can I find someone's cell phone number? Say you found a phone number or txt message from a number you don't recognize. To reverse a cell phone number, you generally need a service like find a cell number.

The Internet is a gold mine for divorce lawyers. Mainly because people are dumb enough to think that no one is looking at their websites or what they post on other people's sites. If you think your spouse is cheating - look it up.

Why Holidays Are Important For Fathers Without Custody

When a father doesn't have custody of his children, he may have a difficult time of it when holidays roll around. He may not have custody because of a divorce or a breakup with the mother. If a holiday is not specifically spelled out in some kind of court order, then dad generally won't get to see his kids. Even if it IS in a court order - well, mom has some bogus excuse why the kids should spend the holidays with her. And what is really happening is that the children are not seeing their relatives on dad's side of the family.

Holidays are when families get together. Oh sure, Dad may get the kids every weekend. But getting the family together on a weekend is much harder than on a holiday. And forget trying to do this on one of those midweek visits! Trying to co-ordinate seeing relatives around the rush of the visit: pick the child up, drive to dad's house, eat, do homework, drive back, and then the inevitable confrontation with mother. It's pretty impossible to keep the children in touch with anyone but Dad on these midweeks.

But holidays! Aaaaah! No school for the children. Most people have off from work. Many people plan to travel and get together. Wouldn't it be WONDERFUL to have the relatives - aunts, uncles, cousins - spend this happy time with your kids? Just you and them. No hassles with mom or her family or her new boyfriend's or new husband's family. There's always the looking at the clock, counting down until it's time-to-take-back. But for those brief hours or days, your children get to know a whole new host of relatives who love them.

Sadly, too many fathers are denied holiday time with their children. Sometimes, they are just flat out denied contact with their kids. Or Mom says HER family has a "get together" for that particular holiday. Or "sudden plans" come up. Whatever it is - Dad and the relatives don't get to see the kids for a holiday. That's wrong. And it's harmful.
What can you do about it? Go to Court.

1. Some states have a specific holiday parenting time schedule. It is a MYTH that if Dad doesn't request a holiday, that he waives visitation for that holiday! If you are denied a holiday - or you are told that the kids won't be available - you need to DEMAND your rights, and their rights, to this time. This is a PETITION TO ENFORCE PARENTING TIME.

2. Many states also say that parenting time trumps EVERYTHING. Family get-togethers, family traditions, even religious celebrations - EVERYTHING. So if your ex claims that any of these mean you don't get the childern for a holiday - file a PETITION FOR CONTEMPT and a PETITION FOR INJUNCTION, to get your UNINTERRUPTED time with your kids.

3. Many states have laws that say that Dad can NOT be denied visitation if he is regularly paying child support. And since so many courts are now requiring child support to come straight out of paychecks, YOU probably are paying your support regularly. If your ex says flat out you won't get time for a particular holiday, file a PETITION FOR INJUNCTION to force visitation.

4. If you are celebrating the holidays of your religion (as opposed to mother's religion), then your children need to be aware of your faith and practices. If she denies you this time, again, file a petition with the Court. The judge may not even be aware there is a religious difference that is causing turmoil.

These are YOUR kids, and you don't get a second shot at raising them.

I need to know who a phone number belongs to. Hopefully, you as a husband or boyfriend will never have ot be in this situation. Hopefully, you'll never see a phone number on your wife's or girlfriend's cell phone that you don't recognize. Or as a father, you won't see a phone number on your son's or daughter's phone bill that looks suspicious. I need to know who a phone number belongs too. Hopefully, it won't happen to you.

A phone number you don't recognize could be a new friend. Or a relative has changed to a new phone. Or it's the new club for your kids. But what if it isn't? What if it is that guy who kept talking to your wife at that party after she had a few too many? What if it's that new assistant at church or school who seems a little too interested in your kids?

Here are 5 ways to track down a phone number:
1. Enter the phone number into a search engine. This may give you a result, but search engines don't search phone number databases.
2. Use a reverse phone number website. These work for phone directories, where the service is free. These don't work generally for cell phones. They may also be out of date.
3. Search social networking sites. This is even less reliable, as there is no guarantee that the name you get back is the real name of the person.
4. Ask or call it. This depends on whether you trust you will get an accurate and truthful answer.
5. Maybe the most reliable method is to use Reverse Phone Detective. This is a paid service that is probably the most reliable method of identifying a phone number.

STOP Parental Alienation Syndrome before it gets a chance to START

Parental Alienation Syndrome was probably first identified and codified by Dr. Richard Gardner in his book of the same name. He first laid out his thesis in 1985 in an article, "Recent Trends in Divorce and Custody Litigation." He expanded this into the book "Parental Alienation Syndrome," and since then, PAS has been written about, studdied, debated, denied, and - of course - has had dozens of websites and forums dedicated to it. A brief overview of PAS will be helpful and will explain more about this condition than quoting from the hundreds of articles written about it. PAS has 4 components, and all 4 must be present (otherwise the situation is called "Parental Alienation"):

(1) --parent acting as gatekeeper to the children

(2) --unfounded allegations of abuse

(3) --deterioration in the relationship between child and parent from once-healthy to fearful

(4) --fear reaction of the child to the alienating parent

In other words, the alienating parent (usually the custodial parent) falsely accuses the non-custodial parent of an act of abuse against the child (2), makes these allegations to the child (2), uses these false allegations to restrict the contact between the parent and the child (1), which deteriorates the relationship between that child and the parent (3). During this process, the custodial parent is instilling fear in the child of opposing the false allegations (4), which - if it is effective enough - can make the child convince himself that the allegations are true.

PAS must be dealt with IMMEDIATELY. Sometimes the custodial parent may not be doing this consciously (custodial parent likes the power from (1), but if challenged, invents an abuse allegation (2) to continue, enjoys seeing the child turn away from non-custodial parent (3), which is reinforced by the custodial parent (4)), which is all the more reason that it must be challenged before it gets a foothold in the mind of the child.

Most states have petitions (a form of injunctive relief) to force visitation to occur IF the non-custodial parent is current in supoort AND there is no justifiable basis for the unilateral suppression of visitation. This is an extremely powerful weapon for the non-custodial parent, and the relief is immediate. The problem is that, for some reason, they are not as familiar with attorneys or judges. Youu may have to press your lawyer to file this.

Most states also have petitions to hold the custodial parent in contempt of court for violating court-ordered visitation schedules. These petitions are more familiar, but they seek to enforce visitation by making its denial painful to the custodial parent.

These petitions may not work the first time, but repeatedly bringing them may convince the judge to address the problem before the children actually hate the non-custodial parent, without any basis other than spite and meanness of the custodial parent.

Fathers can make all the difference

CHILDREN RAISED APART FROM DAD ARE PRONE TO PROBLEMS

The statistics scare me.

Children from fatherless homes account for: the majority of youth
suicides, teenage pregnancies, homeless and runaway children, juveniles
in detention, children with behavioral disorders, high school dropouts
and adolescents who abuse drugs.

They are the same statistics that have been rolled out for years by
those trying to change a court system that gives a great deal of power
to the custodial parent (usually the mother), and a welfare system that
initially demanded fathers be absent before benefits would be paid.

Add to those barriers built-up frustration on the part of the
non-custodial father -- or his selfishness -- and you have a recipe for
father absenteeism.

The importance of a father's relationship with his children has been
minimized, and the people who suffer the most are the children.

And yet, no one seems to be making serious efforts to improve those
father-child relationships.
David Cozart, community involvement manager at LexLinc, knows that. He
knows society has a dim view of most absent fathers, and he knows that
view with some fathers is deserved.

But Cozart wants to change that.

"I didn't come to deal with these issues because of grown folks'
problems," Cozart said, "but because of problems it is causing
children."

Cozart, some community leaders and the Georgetown Street Neighborhood
Association are sponsoring the "Fatherhood Celebration" at Douglass
Park
from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday.

Festivities will begin at the YMCA, 381 West Loudon Avenue, with
registration at 11 a.m., followed by a symbolic walk to Douglass Park.

"Activities will be focused around children," Cozart said, "because
this
is really about children."

There will be a picnic, so people are encouraged to bring blankets.
There will also be marbles and jacks, as well as face painting,
basketball, box hockey, chess and checkers, door prizes and a resource
fair.

Those resources will center on support available for fathers who are
trying to be, or have stopped trying to be, in their children's lives.

The purpose is to gather data, Cozart said, to determine needs and then
to plan follow-up programs to satisfy those needs.

A third of all children are born out of wedlock, he said, and half of
all marriages end in divorce.

That means "two out of three children have a pretty good chance of
being
in a family without a father," Cozart said.

He hopes a variety of fathers will attend: the non-custodial parent who
has a child out of wedlock living in Bluegrass Aspendale; the father
who
lives in Hartland and is divorced but having a hard time with
visitation; or the father who lives in Masterson Station Park who has
remarried, started a new family, and is having difficulty fostering
good
relationships with children from his previous marriage.

While most fathers are doing what they should, many are not.

"It has to be something very strong, something very powerful or
something seriously wrong with an individual to turn their back on a
child," Cozart said.

As the mother of three, I don't understand how something like that
could
happen.

Unfortunately, history, the court and welfare systems have played a
role
in making absenteeism acceptable in the past, Cozart said.

"At one point, it became pretty normal in many situations for a father
to distribute his sperm and go on about his business," he said.

When men stepped aside, many women stepped up, he said, and reared the
family. Other women saw it could be done and "that's when normalization
began."

Plus, he said, some fathers are allowed to participate in their
children's lives only when they provide economically. When they can't,
fathers are either blocked from visitation or fade away on their own
with a negative sense of self-worth.

I understand that. I do. I was a single, custodial parent struggling to
keep me and my daughter no more than knee deep in troubled waters. I
had
to work and provide. Why shouldn't fathers? The children still have to
eat and survive.

Statistics show, Cozart said, that a lot of fathers are involved
prenatally and in the first few years of a child's life. Something
brings that to an end.

Cozart said one of those "somethings" could be the troubled
relationship
between the mother and father. He suggested poor interpersonal
relationship skills between parents, as well as power struggles and
custody battles, could be at fault.

"We need to identify those factors that have encouraged fathers to no
longer try" to see their children.

There has to be some liaison or agency or agent that gives
non-custodial
fathers the ability to weave through various barriers for the
betterment
of their children, Cozart said, adding he hopes that will begin with
the
celebration Saturday.

"The ordained order of family is father, mother and child," Cozart
said.
"A child deserves his mother and father."
